City Extensions

Southeast Asia is far more compact than South and North America, and excellent transportation connections make it easy and convenient to get from one place to another. While you might want to spend your holiday in Thailand taking in the best beaches, temples, and shopping in Bangkok, it would also be extremely simple and feasible to add an extra day or two to your itinerary and fly over to Siem Reap to visit the magnificent temples of Angkor Wat. City and tour extensions can include island breaks, shopping tours, fine dining and nightlife hops, and plenty more. Here are a few ideas to get you started, the options are endless.

Japan-Seoul Tour Extension
It is a short flight from Tokyo over to Seoul, the capital of South Korea. With a few days here, you can take in the imposing Gyeongbukgung, the country’s finest palace, shop for kimchi and souvenirs in the traditional Namdaemun Market, hike up to the top of Baekundae Mountain in Bukhansan National Park which overlooks all of Seoul, and then partake of a traditional Korean barbecue and dance the night away Gangnam Style!

Bangkok-Maldives Tour Extension
The Maldives are only a 4.5 hour flight from Bangkok, actually the same distance as Bali, and as it is a long haul from the Americas to Asia, why not end your holiday on a dreamy and completely relaxing note by calling in to the Maldives for a few days. The Maldives offer some of the clearest turquoise water, white sand beaches, and superb diving and surfing to be found on the planet, combined with the world’s most exquisite and elegant luxury resorts, an absurdly romantic and honeymoon worthy spot that should be high on anybody’s travel bucket list.

Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, or Jakarta-Phuket Extension
While Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Jakarta offer all that a cosmopolitan high end city trip could ask for, why not slip over to Phuket for a few days for some real pampering and taking it easy. A short flight brings you to Phuket where a private yacht is awaiting you to explore the beautiful emerald bays of the Andaman Sea. If you are a diver, head out on the boat overnight to the world class Similan Islands, or if you want to take it really easy, call in to some of the lesser known islands like Koh Lanta, which offers boutique stays without the masses.

Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, or Singapore-Saigon Extension
After getting your fill of Thailand or the Malay Peninsula, why not try something completely different and come visit Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) and the surrounding areas. The Mekong Delta is full of traditional floating markets, vendors in conical bamboo hats, and offers plenty of hidden canals and interesting spots. If you are ready to chill out a bit, make a quick detour over to Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s answer to Phuket, full of white sand beaches, island day trips, and far fewer tourists than anywhere else in the region. Set to become the next big Asian beach resort, come experience Phu Quoc while it is still sleepy and pristine.

These are just a sample of the extension options you can add on to a tour. Whether it is the ruins at Angkor, the beaches on Koh Lipe, or a diversion up to Myanmar’s gorgeous Inle Lake, Kept Secrets can get you there and make the most efficient use of your time to ensure you have the most memorable vacation possible.
